Danang Police, in coordination with the city’s Forest Protection Department, returned the snake to its natural habitat on March 18.
Residents on Le Trong Tan Street in An Khe Ward spotted the python on the evening of March 17 and reported it to local authorities.
Upon inspection, officials identified the animal as a reticulated python measuring about 3.5 metres in length and weighing nearly 16 kilogrammes.
The species is widely distributed across Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. Although non-venomous, it hunts by constricting its prey and can pose risks if encountered in residential areas.
The reticulated python is considered a rare and valuable wild species and is listed under Group IIB in Vietnam’s conservation classification system, requiring protection. Authorities said the timely report by residents helped ensure the animal was safely handled and released without harm.
