On March 17, reporters from Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper visited and presented VND 114.6 million (about USD 4,500) donated by readers to Truong Trung Tinh, who lives in Dong Ky B Hamlet, Duc Chau Commune, Nghe An.
Local officials, including Pham Khac Bien, deputy secretary of the Duc Chau Commune Party Committee, and Nguyen Quoc Khanh, head of the commune’s Vietnam Fatherland Front, attended the handover.

Tinh returned from military service in 1980 as a certified war invalid. Since then, he and his elder brother have taken responsibility for caring for four younger siblings, three brothers and one sister, all born with mental illness.
Already living in hardship, Tinh suffered a stroke last year. The after-effects of the stroke, compounded by war-related injuries, have left the former soldier in seriously declining health.
He now fears that, as he and his wife grow older and weaker, they will no longer be able to care for the siblings. Two of them have already been placed in social protection centres, a decision he described as deeply painful. He remains troubled by what will happen to the others when he is no longer alive.

After Dantri/Dtinews published an article detailing the family’s situation, readers offered financial support to help ease their burden.
Receiving the donation through the newspaper’s charity programme, Tinh said the funds would not only help improve care for his siblings but also represented compassion from donors across the country.
Through Dantri, he expressed gratitude to readers and benefactors for their support during a period of profound difficulty.
Nguyen Quoc Khanh, speaking at the event on behalf of local authorities, thanked the newspaper and its readers for their continued assistance.
He said the family is among the most difficult cases in the commune and pledged that local authorities would continue to provide support, while expressing hope for ongoing backing from Dantri for disadvantaged households in the area.
