Authorities in Quang Ngai Province have apprehended a man accused of transporting nearly 100 kilogrammes of explosives intended for use in illegal fishing.

The Quang Ngai Province Border Guard Command said on March 15 that its officers, working with other functional forces, detained the 53-year-old man, a resident of Ly Son, for illegally transporting the materials.
According to initial information, border guards coordinated with the Ly Son Border Guard Station and local police to conduct patrols and inspections in the area during the early hours of the same day.
While patrolling a coastal road in Tay Hamlet in Ly Son, officers spotted the suspect riding a motorbike carrying three suspicious sacks. An inspection revealed solid grey lumpy substances inside the sacks suspected to be explosives.
Further searches in the surrounding area led authorities to discover three additional sacks hidden on a nearby beach.
During initial questioning, the suspect admitted that all the substances contained in the six sacks were explosives he had transported and concealed.
He told investigators he intended to take the explosives onto a fishing vessel for use in seafood exploitation activities.
Authorities said the total weight of explosives seized from the six sacks was 97 kilogrammes.
Officers have documented the case, seized the motorbike and other evidence, and are continuing investigations in accordance with the law.
