Ho Chi Minh City keeps temporary parks on vacant land

Ho Chi Minh City will maintain temporary parks created on vacant prime land plots after fences were removed ahead of 2026 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has asked sponsors and local authorities to continue maintaining landscaped areas that were upgraded for the 2026 Tet holiday.

According to the department, the improvements have enhanced the urban landscape while providing additional public spaces for residents and visitors.

To prevent trees and landscaping features from deteriorating after the holiday, land managers have been urged to work with local authorities to maintain environmental sanitation, urban aesthetics and public order.

Relevant units have also been asked to review land-use plans and identify ways to continue using the spaces for community activities while awaiting planned developments.

Earlier, 11 vacant plots across the city were upgraded for the Lunar New Year. Many are located in central areas, including sites at 8 Vo Van Tan; 33 Nguyen Du; 34, 36 and 42 Chu Manh Trinh; 135 Nguyen Hue; 39 Le Loi; the block bounded by Le Thanh Ton, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Le Loi and Nguyen Trung Truc; and 8-12 Le Duan.

The sites were improved in various ways, including removing fences to create small parks and plazas, adding greenery and decorative landscaping, and installing facilities such as parking areas and public toilets.
