Mountain village bridge in Tuyen Quang races to finish before rains

Workers are accelerating construction of a community bridge in a remote village in Tuyen Quang Province, aiming to complete the project before the rainy season begins.

The Dantri Bridge in Thac Hung Village, Cao Bo Commune, Tuyen Quang Province, is being built across a small stream with funding of more than VND 1.67 billion (about USD 67,000) donated by readers of the Dantri Newspaper.

Among the contributors, the May 10 Corporation donated VND 800 million (about USD 32,000), while local authorities have provided additional support to facilitate the project.

Nguyen Van Duong, chairman of the Cao Bo Commune People’s Committee, said construction teams are working to speed up key stages of the project.

“Three bridge abutments have now been completed according to the design. The contractor is currently installing scaffolding in preparation for pouring the bridge deck,” Duong said.

Local authorities are also helping the village build an access road to transport materials to the construction site, with funding of about VND 40 million (about USD 1,600).

“This road is necessary to allow construction materials to be delivered to the site more easily,” Duong added.

Residents have long hoped for the bridge to be completed, as the stream becomes dangerous during the rainy season, particularly for schoolchildren who must cross it daily.

“People are willing to contribute labour to reinforce the bridge approaches and help build access roads,” Duong said.

Authorities aim to complete the bridge in April to mark the 51st anniversary of Reunification Day (April 30). With the current progress, officials believe villagers will soon have a safer crossing before the heavy rains arrive.

The Dantri Bridge in Thac Hung Village is the 32nd bridge built nationwide under a charity programme launched by Dantri Newspaper.

Beyond bridge projects, the newspaper has funded 253 houses, 58 classrooms, and 50 floating homes for flood-prone areas. It has also organised 32 free medical consultation programmes for more than 6,000 people, donated 7,060 health insurance cards to disadvantaged students, and launched fundraising campaigns supporting nearly 6,000 families facing extreme hardship.
