Driver fined for carrying 60 passengers on 19-seat bus

Traffic police in Tuyen Quang Province have fined a bus driver and the vehicle’s operator more than VND 220 million (about USD 8,365) for carrying far more passengers than permitted.

According to provincial traffic police, penalties were issued on March 9 to a 52-year-old driver for transporting passengers well beyond the allowed capacity and operating outside the authorised route.

The bus operator, CA Transport and Tourism Services Co, was also fined for allowing its employee to run the vehicle with excessive passengers and for failing to comply with the service information displayed on the bus.

The total fine imposed on both the driver and the company amounted to VND 223.2 million.

In addition, the driver received a 10-point deduction from his driving licence, while the company’s transport badge was suspended for two months.

The violation was detected at about 10.25 am on March 8 when traffic police stopped a passenger bus with licence plate 22H-010.xx travelling on the Na Hang-Bac Ninh route along Provincial Road 186 in Binh Ca Commune.

During the inspection, officers found the 19-seat vehicle was carrying 60 passengers and operating outside its authorised transport route.
