Authorities later took custody of the reptile and will coordinate with relevant agencies to manage the case.

Police have advised residents that when they encounter unfamiliar or potentially invasive animals, they should not attempt to keep them as pets or release them into the environment. Instead, they should promptly notify local authorities so the animals can be handled safely and appropriately.
