Fishing boat and two fishermen missing off Danang coast

A fishing boat with two fishermen on board has lost contact while operating about 19 nautical miles northeast of Son Tra Peninsula in Danang, prompting search efforts by border guard forces.

Authorities in Phu Trach Commune, Quang Tri Province, reported on March 7 that fishing vessel QB93827-TS had lost its tracking signal while operating at sea.

The boat is owned and captained by Le Ngoc Son, 51. Another crewmember, Pham Van Khuong, 52, was also on board at the time contact was lost.

According to authorities, checks of the vessel’s monitoring device showed that its signal disappeared at 11.05 pm on March 5.

Le Hoai Nam, the captain’s son, said the boat had departed La Port in Phu Trach Commune on February 25 for a fishing trip.

Local authorities are coordinating with border guard forces to carry out search operations. Border guard units have also alerted other fishing vessels operating nearby to assist with observation and rescue if the missing boat is located.
