Despite ongoing infrastructure upgrades, Con Dao has retained its pristine natural beauty and peaceful rhythm of life, which remain key attractions for travelers.

According to the local Culture, Information, Sports and Tourism Centre, the seasonal transition of the ancient almond trees has become a special highlight for tourists.

Many of these large almond trees are considered historical witnesses, with several recognised as heritage trees. During the period when revolutionary prisoners were held on the island, they reportedly used the fruit and seeds of these trees as a source of food.

Ha Thanh Kien, a visitor from Ca Mau, said the island’s resilient history makes the seasonal transformation even more meaningful.

“Con Dao is a land with a resilient past, and its trees have also endured many historical ups and downs. I wanted to visit in spring to see new buds appear, symbolising hope and new life for the island,” he said.

According to officials at Ben Dam Port, the number of tourists arriving by sea has increased in early 2026. Each day, two ferry trips carry passengers to and from the island, with around 600-900 travelers per trip, mostly departing from Tran De Port in Can Tho City.

Since February 26, a high-speed ferry route between Vung Tau and Con Dao has resumed operations, offering travelers from Ho Chi Minh City an additional travel option. The ferry can carry 1,107 passengers per trip and operates three times per week.

During the seven-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2026, Con Dao welcomed 10,776 visitors, including 1,505 international tourists and 9,271 domestic travelers. International arrivals were four times higher than the same period last year, while domestic visitors rose by about 150 per cent.

Most international tourists travel to the island by air via flights operated by VASCO and Vietjet Air.
