Storm damage has left a coastal road and sea wall in the Hai Tien tourist area of Thanh Hoa Province badly eroded, raising concerns the site could miss the upcoming summer tourism season.

Authorities had declared an emergency after storms Kajiki, Ragasa and Bualoi in 2025 battered sections of the sea wall running through Hoang Tien and Hoang Thanh communes. However, repairs have yet to begin as local authorities are still awaiting funding approval.

As of early March, large stretches of the coastal promenade and sea wall remain in ruins. Some sections have collapsed by 2-3 metres, with waves continuing to erode the shoreline and toppled trees left uncleared.

“We have submitted cost estimates for repairs and are awaiting approval from the provincial People’s Committee so construction can begin,” a Hoang Tien Commune official said.
