On the morning of March 4, local authorities across Vietnam simultaneously held handover ceremonies, sending new recruits to the armed forces.
In Hanoi, 4,721 citizens were called up, including 4,000 for military service and 721 for the people’s public security force.
In Ho Chi Minh City, 9,105 young people began their service, the highest recruitment quota in the country.
Ninh Binh also held its ceremony on March 4, with more than 6,000 recruits, including 5,500 assigned to military service and 791 to the people’s public security force.
Under the current law on military service, male citizens aged between 18 and 25 are required to perform compulsory service. Those granted deferment for university or college education may be called up until the age of 27. Female citizens with qualifications suited to the army’s needs may volunteer for service.
The standard term of active duty for non commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months. In cases deemed necessary to ensure combat readiness, the term may be extended by up to six months by decision of the defence minister.
