The bomb was found on February 23 while a family was digging foundations for a new house in Hamlet 12, Quynh Lam area, Quynh Son Commune. The homeowner, Vu Trong Cuong, uncovered a large cylindrical metal object buried about 1.5 metres underground and promptly reported the discovery to local officials after recognising the potential danger in a densely populated area.
Upon inspection, the Quynh Son Commune Military Command identified the object as an MK-82 bomb measuring 20 centimetres in diameter and 155 centimeters in length, weighing 350 kilogrammes. The bomb remained intact with its fuse in place, posing a serious threat to nearby residents.

Local forces immediately cordoned off the site and maintained round-the-clock guard to prevent people and livestock from entering the danger zone.
Specialists from the Engineering Unit of the Nghe An Provincial Military Command were deployed to carefully disable the fuse. After completing safety procedures, the bomb disposal team coordinated with local forces to relocate the device to a designated safe area, where it was destroyed in accordance with regulations.
