At a meeting on project progress, Vice Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong said the Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem metro and the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway were crucial to linking the future Long Thanh International Airport with central Ho Chi Minh City and Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

City authorities have ordered departments to mobilise maximum resources to ensure progress and quality, identifying the Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem line as an urgent, priority project eligible for special policy mechanisms to speed up implementation.
The city has agreed in principle to set up a council to appraise the feasibility study, while the Department of Construction will complete procedures to classify the project as urgent and ensure a groundbreaking before April 20.
The broader rail axis connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports comprises three projects Metro Line 2’s Ben Thanh-Tham Luong section, Metro Line 2’s Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem section, and the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway.
Earlier, the Ministry of Construction endorsed the city’s proposal to link the two airports via the Tham Luong-Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem-Long Thanh rail corridor.
