Elderly father and three disabled sons receive support to build new home

Representatives from Dantri Newspaper and leaders from Dak Lak Province have visited and presented a symbolic donation of VND 163.97 million to Dao Van Chin to help his family build a new home.

The full amount has been transferred directly into Chin’s personal bank account. The donation was raised through the newspaper’s charity programme after it reported on the family’s hardship.

Chin, 76, has spent years caring for his three disabled sons. One has been paralysed since childhood, another lives with severe mental illness and often wanders, while the third suffers from serious diabetes and has lost a leg.

The family’s home has deteriorated badly, with termite-damaged wooden beams, stained walls and a rotting tiled roof. During heavy rain, water leaks throughout the house, severely affecting daily life.

The four-member household mainly relies on a monthly social allowance of VND 2.25 million. The state has also provided a breeding cow to support Chin’s livelihood. His greatest wish, he said, was to receive help repairing the house so the family could escape constant leaks and unsafe conditions.

“This is an incredibly large and meaningful amount for my family,” Chin said. “I’m truly overjoyed. I plan to rebuild the house so my children can live in a safer and more decent place, because the old one has deteriorated seriously.”

On behalf of his family, he thanked Dantri readers and donors in Vietnam and abroad for their compassion and support.

Nguyen Hoang Loi, deputy permanent secretary of the Xuan Lanh Commune Party Committee, who joined the visit, expressed appreciation for the charitable gesture, saying the donation would help Chin’s family build a new home and stabilise their lives.
