The People’s Committee of My Thuy Commune said it was coordinating with relevant agencies to handle the carcass after it drifted onto the shoreline of My Thuy Hamlet.
The incident was reported at about 3 pm on February 8, when residents alerted local authorities to a large dead marine animal on the southern end of My Thuy Beach.
Officials from the commune’s economic division were sent to the scene to inspect and verify the report. They confirmed it was a whale, estimated to weigh about one tonne, and in an advanced state of decomposition.
The carcass lies in a section of coastline affected by erosion, making access and disposal difficult.
Local authorities said they are now working with relevant units to develop a solution suited to on-the-ground conditions, while ensuring environmental safety and protecting the beach’s landscape.
