The cigarettes were seized during enforcement operations and destroyed under court orders issued on December 30, 2025, and a decision to establish a destruction council dated January 30.
All 6,500 packs were mechanically crushed, including with garbage compactors and bulldozers, before being buried and treated with municipal solid waste.
Officials said the process was designed to prevent reuse and minimise environmental risks.
The destruction was carried out publicly under the supervision of the evidence-destruction council, with representatives from the city’s procuracy and relevant agencies in attendance.
