The operator, Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company 1, said on February 4 that fares on the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien line will be waived on February 16 and 17, corresponding to the final day of the 2025 lunar year and the first day of the 2026 lunar New Year or Tet holiday.

The programme, approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee with support from the city’s Department of Construction, applies to all journeys in both directions during the two days.
Passengers can access the free service by scanning a chip-based national ID card, using a QR code generated on the HCM City Metro HURC mobile application, or collecting a free QR-code paper ticket from automated kiosks at stations. Tickets purchased voluntarily during the period will not be refunded, the operator said.
The QR-code function on the HCM City Metro HURC app will be activated only for the two free-travel days.
Metro Line 1 will operate an expanded Tet timetable from February 12 to 22, with higher-than-normal service levels. Trains will run from 5 am to 11 pm, with headways ranging from seven to 15 minutes.
