As the Lunar New Year approaches, the Hanoi public security department has stepped up inspections and monitoring, using surveillance cameras to detect violations, particularly in densely populated and busy commercial areas.
Authorities said most cases involved the illegal occupation of roads and pavements for business activities, as well as the improper placement of advertising boards and objects that obstruct traffic and undermine the city’s appearance.
Data showed violations were concentrated in inner-city wards. Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam recorded 46 cases on January 23, rising to 50 on January 25. Hoan Kiem logged 15 cases on January 23, 17 on January 24 and 32 on January 25. Dong Da also saw an increase, from 23 cases on January 24 to 29 on January 25.
Other hotspots included Cua Nam, Xuan Dinh, and Ha Dong wards and Dong Anh Commune. Notably, Hoang Liet and Phu Dien recorded high numbers of violations during the evening and at night.
At the Hanoi Police Command Information Centre, officers work around the clock to monitor surveillance screens, identify violations and forward cases to local police units for processing.
Police said camera-based fines have expanded monitoring coverage, enabled continuous enforcement and reduced the ability of violators to evade detection.
In the coming period, Hanoi will further strengthen the use of technology, combine patrols with public feedback and step up enforcement to help build a more orderly, civilised and safe capital.
