Police in Dak Lieng commune said on January 26 they had received a rare and endangered wild animal voluntarily surrendered by a local resident.

According to police, Y Diem Hlong, 46, from Knac Village, discovered a pangolin that had strayed into his house on January 22. Recognising it as a protected wild animal, he captured it and brought it to the Dak Lieng Commune police station.
Hlong said his house is located near the edge of a forest and he did not know where the pangolin had come from.
After verification, authorities identified the animal as a Javan pangolin, weighing 2.2 kilograms. It belongs to group IB, classified as a rare and endangered species prioritised for protection.
Following the handover, Dak Lieng Commune police coordinated with the Lak Forest Ranger Unit and local authorities to complete the necessary procedures to release the pangolin back into its natural habitat in accordance with regulations.
