According to the Quang Ngai Border Guard Command, Nhut Xay Nha Lan, 28, was detained on January 20 during a joint patrol involving local border guard units, police and specialised anti-drug forces.
The 28-year-old man from Laos’ Attapeu province was stopped for inspection while riding a motorcycle on the Ho Chi Minh Highway in Dak Mon Commune. A search of the vehicle uncovered 15 plastic bags hidden inside a jacket and along the edge of the compartment, containing a total of 12,087 pink and green pills believed to be synthetic drugs.
During questioning, he admitted the drugs were synthetic stimulant tablets and said he had been hired by an unidentified Lao man to transport them to Vietnam in exchange for VND 20 million (roughly USD 800).
The Lao man told investigators he had crossed into Vietnam by motorcycle and collected the drugs from a pre-arranged location near a secondary border crossing before heading toward a delivery point, where he was intercepted by authorities.
Nhut Xay Nha Lan, along with the drugs and vehicle, has been transferred to Dak Long Border Guard Station for further investigation in accordance with Vietnamese law.
