The Phu Quy Express previously operated on the Phan Thiet-Phu Quy route before being redeployed on the Ho Chi Minh City-Con Dao service.
Its return to the Phan Thiet-Phu Quy route ahead of Tet is expected to ease pressure on existing services, especially as passenger numbers surge during the peak travel period.
From October each year, rough conditions caused by the northeast monsoon often disrupt sea travel, forcing many high-speed ferries to suspend or limit services.
The addition of a twin-hull ferry at this time is expected to give residents and tourists a safer and more convenient option for island travel.
A representative of the ferry operator said advance bookings for the Lunar New Year were rising rapidly, with demand peaking from the second day of the Lunar New Year or Tet onwards.
Local residents also hope the twin-hull, sleeper-equipped ferry will provide a smoother journey and reduce seasickness, particularly for the elderly and children.
