Japanese patrol vessel Akitsushima makes port call in Danang

The Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel Akitsushima arrived in Danang on January 19 for a five-day goodwill visit aimed at strengthening Vietnam-Japan maritime ties.

The large patrol vessel Akitsushima of the Japan Coast Guard docked at Tien Sa Port on January 19, beginning a five-day friendly visit to Danang with a crew of 60 officers and sailors.

The ship is led by Rear Admiral Takahashi Toru. During the visit, which runs until January 23, the vessel’s command group will pay courtesy calls on leaders of the Danang city administration, Coast Guard Region 2 and several related agencies.

Officers and crew members will also visit and learn about cultural and tourist sites across Danang.

According to the Danang Department of Foreign Affairs, the port call contributes to strengthening friendship and mutual trust, in line with the policy of promoting the Vietnam-Japan comprehensive strategic partnership.

Akitsushima is a large patrol vessel measuring 150 metres in length and about 17 metres in width, with a displacement of 6,500 tonnes and the capacity to operate two helicopters simultaneously.

The ship is equipped with two 20mm cannons and two 40mm cannons, serving patrol, search and rescue, and maritime security and safety missions.
