Under a directive from the Hanoi People’s Committee, so-called “hotspots” that seriously affect traffic safety, urban civility and public order must be cleared by January 30, 2026.
Street markets and informal trading points with fewer than 50 households must be dismantled by June 30, 2026, while those involving between 50 and 100 households are required to be cleared by December 30, 2026.
For larger and more complex sites with more than 100 households that have existed for a long time, the city has set a final deadline of June 30, 2027.
The Hanoi People’s Committee has instructed local authorities to arrange suitable alternative trading locations for affected vendors, relocating them to licensed markets in line with regulations. This process will be linked to the construction of new markets and the renovation and upgrading of existing ones under the city’s market development and management plan for 2026 and the 2026-2030 period.
