
Passengers on the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route
Since entering service on December 22, 2024, the line has operated more than 78,000 train trips and transported about 18.95 million passenger journeys as of December 15, 2025, exceeding its target by 14 per cent, according to the city’s Urban Railway Management Board.
The route averaged more than 1.5 million passengers a month, or about 52,000 a day, with daily numbers peaking at over 110,000 during holidays and festivals, reflecting strong public demand.
The city’s Urban Traffic Management and Operations Centre reported a marked decline in traffic accidents along the Hanoi Highway-Vo Nguyen Giap corridor after the line opened, compared with the same period in 2024, including reductions in fatalities and injuries.
Metro line 1, the city’s first urban railway, spans 19.7 kilometres, including 2.6 kilometres of underground track through the city centre and 17.1 kilometres of elevated sections. It has 14 stations, comprising three underground and 11 elevated stations.
The journey from Ben Thanh station to Suoi Tien bus terminal takes about 29 minutes, with a maximum operating speed of 110 kilometres per hour on elevated sections and 80 kilometres per hour underground.
Fares range from 6,000 to 20,000 dong for single trips, with daily, multi-day and monthly passes also available, including discounted monthly tickets for students.
