Illegal parking on pavements and streets remains common in Hanoi, partly driven by a lack of parking spaces
Under the approved plan, the project will include two basement levels. The first will provide about 380 square metres for motorbike parking, accommodating roughly 110 vehicles. The second will offer about 1,584 square metres for car parking, with capacity for around 268 vehicles using an automated system.
The plan also includes a short-term on-street parking area for about 35 vehicles along Phung Hung and Duong Thanh streets.
Above ground, the project will feature vehicle access ramps, green space and pedestrian walkways, as well as a focal architectural element linked to the underground commercial area.
Electric vehicle charging points, parking for electric bicycles and technical space for a pole-mounted transformer station are also included to meet technical standards and urban aesthetic requirements.
According to the Hanoi department of construction, by 2030 the city will need nearly 1,700 parking facilities covering about 1,800 hectares. At present, only around 72 official car parks are operating, less than 10 per cent of the planned total, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Hanoi plans to build 78 underground car parks across inner-city wards, including Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Dong Da and Tay Ho, by 2030, with a vision extending to 2050.
