Ho Chi Minh City forest rangers and Nha Be police check a house in Nha Be Commune and find 75 illegally kept South American iguanas on December 12.

The reptiles, weighing a total of 61.8kg and measuring 40 to 80cm long, are listed under Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

Forest rangers have seized the 75 iguanas and moved them to their headquarters for care and further handling.

On December 10, rangers also inspected a facility in Cu Chi Commune and seized 362 South American iguanas, two Indochinese box turtles and three African spurred tortoises. None of the animals had documents proving legal origin.
