Successive storms have triggered severe landslides along the main road in Don Village in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa's Pu Luong Commune.

According to residents, the road began sliding after Typhoon Matmo, with large volumes of soil collapsing and burying nearby rice fields.

At least four serious landslide points have been recorded.

Despite warnings and roadblocks, people continue to pass through the area.

Toppled poles have left power lines hanging dangerously low, posing risks to residents and tourists.

The asphalt road in Don Village centre cracked, with sections sinking about 50 centimetres.

Thanh Hoa authorities have allocated VND 7 billion (approximately USD 277,000), for restoration. “We have blocked off the landslide sites, but residents keep removing the barriers,” a local official said, adding that urgent slope reinforcement using gabion baskets will follow.

Pu Luong Commune lies about 160 kilometres southwest of Hanoi, in the core zone of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Don Village is a popular eco-tourism destination known for its cool climate, terraced fields and mountain scenery.
