On November 11, Dtinews launched the construction of eight new houses valued at a total of VND 558 million (USD 21,900) to help families in Phu Binh Commune, Thai Nguyen Province, rebuild after their homes were destroyed by Typhoon Matmo.
On this occasion, the newspaper also awarded 20 scholarships, each worth VND 1 million (USD 39), to students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Phu Binh Commune.

Speaking at the event, Dtinews Editor-in-Chief Pham Tuan Anh expressed gratitude to Vingroup for their cooperation and support, as well as to Thai Nguyen Province’s leaders, the People’s Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, and local departments for their ongoing partnership in humanitarian initiatives.
He said the construction of new homes and scholarships for students from families affected by Typhoon Matmo would offer residents “a new start and a new life”.
Discussing the typhoon’s impact, Nguyen Thi Trang, Deputy Secretary of the Phu Binh Commune Party Committee, said total damage across the commune was estimated at over VND 644 billion (USD 25.3 million). Around 8,430 households with 32,720 residents were affected by flooding, including 4,259 households whose homes were submerged, forcing them to evacuate.

‘Today’s support from Dtinews and generous donors is not only a gift but also a source of motivation, helping families overcome hardship and encouraging students to pursue their studies,’ Trang said.

Many houses in Thai Nguyen are deeply submerged following heavy rain triggered by Typhoon Matmo.
Among the eight households receiving support, 77-year-old Duong Thi Bo said many benefactors learned of her situation through a Dtinews article.
So far, she has received VND 323 million (USD 12,700) in assistance from local authorities and charitable organisations, along with VND 113 million (USD 4,450) donated by Dtinews readers. Bo said she would use the money to build a solid home for a stable life.

Receiving more than VND 113 million from Dtinews, Bo was deeply moved and thanked local authorities, the newspaper’s staff and readers for their care and support.
In response to the Government’s “Eliminate dilapidated housing” campaign, Dtinews has set a goal to build 200 homes for low-income and disadvantaged families across Vietnam between 2024 and 2025.
Since April 2024, 231 houses have been launched by Dtinews nationwide, of which 181 have been completed and handed over.
