A 52.9 km rail line from Ben Thanh to Can Gio in Ho Chi Minh City is proposed to begin operations in early 2028.
The project will use around 317 hectares of land. The investor proposes a double-track, standard gauge (1,435 mm) line with a design speed of 350 km/h.
In phase 1 there will be two stations, Ben Thanh and Can Gio, followed in phase 2 by four additional stations at Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be and Binh Khanh, together with a depot and operations centre (OCC) in Can Gio.
Each trainset will comprise eight carriages with a capacity of 600 passengers. The project’s total investment is estimated at VND 85,650 billion (approximately USD 3.4 billion).

To ensure reliable scheduling the assessment states that four trainsets must be in operation simultaneously from launch, and about 400 staff will be based at the depot at the start of commercial service.
Commercial service is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2028.
Currently road access between Can Gio and HCM City relies on the Rung Sac route, which passes through the Can Gio biosphere reserve. As the Can Gio coastal urban area and international trans-shipment port develop, population and transport-link demand between Can Gio and central HCM City are expected to grow rapidly.
