Typhoon Kalmaegi has weakened into a low-pressure zone over southern Laos on November 7.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that over the next 12 hours, the low-pressure system will continue moving west northwest, gradually weakening and dissipating.

Heavy to very heavy rain fell from Hue to Khanh Hoa overnight on November 6 and early November 7. This morning, areas from southern Quang Tri to Danang and the central highlands saw moderate to heavy rain, with some places receiving more than 80 mm, commonly 20-50 mm.

The headquarters of Phu Mo Commune People's Council in Dak Lak Province is submerged by over two metres under water on the evening of November 6.

From this morning until the end of November 8, areas from Thanh Hoa to northern Quang Tri are forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain, with some locations receiving very heavy rain of 50-150 mm, and more than 200 mm in isolated areas. Rainfall intensity may exceed 100 mm in three hours.

Forecasters warned of flooding in low-lying riverside areas, urban zones and densely populated areas in Hue and Quang Ngai. Authorities also warned of a high risk of flash floods and landslides on steep slopes in both localities.

The centre further cautioned of risks of flash floods, landslides and ground subsidence on steep slopes and small streams in Quang Tri, Danang, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong.

Heavy rain in Thanh Hoa to northern Quang Tri is expected to ease from the night of November 8.

Kalmaegi made landfall in Gia Lai and Dak Lak at 7 pm on November 6 with sustained winds of level 12-13, 118-149 km/h, and gusts reaching level 15.

High waves from the sea hit a seaside house in Hoai Nhon Bac Ward, Gia Lai Province on November 6.

The storm caused roofs to blow off, houses to collapse, hotel glass to shatter and uprooted trees. Emergency services received hundreds of calls from residents in distress during the storm.

Kalmaegi also triggered high tides, causing flooding in parts of Ly Son Island, Sa Huynh Ward and Tinh Khe Commune in Quang Ngai Province on the night of November 6.
