On November 2, the Gia Lai People’s Committee held an emergency meeting with provincial departments and 58 communes and wards in the eastern region to discuss storm-response measures.

At the meeting, Pham Anh Tuan, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, instructed the Department of Finance to immediately release funds for the provincial Military Command to procure two drones for rapid relief delivery to isolated communities after the storm if necessary.

He also asked the Military Command to mobilise available drones to survey vulnerable areas at risk of landslides and flooding.

Authorities were told to evacuate all residents in flooded zones and allow them to return only after the storm has fully passed.

Emergency forces have been tasked with pre-positioning personnel, vehicles, supplies and necessities in key hotspot areas, especially locations likely to be isolated by landslides or flooding, to ensure timely assistance.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, Typhoon Kalmaegi is expected to affect the province’s coastal and inland areas between November 5 and November 7.

Over the past 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain has fallen across Gia Lai, with some eastern areas receiving 20-50mm. Four high-risk landslide zones in the east have been identified, affecting nearly 1,000 residents.
