Dog theft ring busted in Dong Thap

Police in An Long Commune, the southern province of Dong Thap, have arrested a group of young men accused of stealing 24 dogs.

According to local police, a patrol team spotted four men on two motorbikes acting suspiciously near the An Long-Tan Quoi ferry wharf on October 29. When officers signalled them to stop, the suspects fled. Three were apprehended, while one escaped.

A search of the motorbikes uncovered four plastic bags containing 24 dead dogs weighing 325 kilogrammes. Police also seized homemade spearguns, electric prods, batteries, wires and a canister of pepper spray believed to have been used in the thefts.

At the police station, the suspects admitted to stealing dogs at night along rural roads in Dong Thap Province.
