Police in Can Tho city are investigating the cause of an electrical leak at Nguyen Phuong Danh Park in Phong Dien Commune that left two teenagers dead amid severe tidal flooding on the evening of October 23.

At around 7 pm, rising tides caused deep flooding in the park and along nearby roads. A 10-year-old child cycling into the park was reportedly electrocuted near a streetlight pole.

Residents rushed to help and warned other children to stay away from the flooded area. However, two 15-year-old students who did not hear the warnings continued cycling into the park.

Both were electrocuted and taken to the Cai Rang-Phong Dien regional medical centre but did not survive.

Local authorities have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the source of the electrical leak and the responsibility of relevant management units.
