Three airports Phu Bai, Danang and Chu Lai are forecast to lie in the direct path of Typhoon Fengshen, while Pleiku and Phu Cat have been placed on high alert, forcing airlines to reschedule or cancel flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has issued a directive instructing aviation units to take preventive measures to ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft and airport operations.
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines said it would adjust its schedules at Hue and Danang on October 22-23. On October 22, flights VN1545/VN1544 (Hanoi-Hue) will depart two hours earlier than planned, while flights VN1378/VN1379 (HCM City-Hue) will operate on the morning of October 23.
Also on October 22, flights VN179/VN180/VN187/VN188 (Hanoi-Danang) and VN136/VN137/VN140 (HCM City-Danang) will depart 90 minutes to two hours earlier. Cancellations include VN1549/VN1548 (Hanoi-Hue), VN7197 (Hanoi-Danang), VN7122/VN142/VN143 (HCM City-Danang), and VN1940/VN1941 (Danang-Cam Ranh) on October 22, as well as VN156 (Danang-Hanoi) and VN101 (Danang-HCM City) on October 23.
Vietnam Airlines warned that other domestic and international services may face knock-on delays from the storm.
Passengers are advised to keep seat belts fastened throughout flights and to monitor weather and flight updates via the airline’s website, social-media channels or notifications sent by SMS and email.
