The animal, about two metres long, was found drifting near the coast before being recovered by local authorities.

On October 21, officers from the Nhat Le Border Guard Station, under the Quang Tri Border Guard Command, helped bury the carcass.
As dolphins are regarded as sacred creatures that bring good fortune and protect seafarers, fishermen held a traditional ritual before the burial, assisted by local authorities.
To keep the area clean and safe, authorities disinfected both the spot where the dolphin was found and the burial site.
