Phu Quoc to build new reservoir

The Duong Dong 2 Freshwater Reservoir is among Phu Quoc Special Zone’s key projects to serve APEC 2027.

An Giang Provincial People’s Committee approved adjustments to the Phu Quoc Master Plan until 2040, notably adding the Duong Dong 2 Freshwater Reservoir.

The move is seen as urgent to provide a legal basis for infrastructure projects serving APEC 2027 and to support Phu Quoc’s long-term sustainable development.

The reservoir is designed to have a capacity of about 4.7 million cubic metres, a daily supply of 36,500 cubic metres, and is targeted for completion before June 2027.

The current Duong Dong reservoir, built in 2002 and subsequently expanded several times, remains the primary freshwater source for Phu Quoc.

An Giang Province is also planning to construct further reservoirs, including Cua Can, Suoi Lon, Rach Ca, and Rach Tram, to meet Phu Quoc’s development needs.
