Calibration flights using a Beechcraft B300 aircraft are conducted at Long Thanh Airport on September 26.
Between 2025 and 2030, CAAV will not grant licences for new international routes or frequency increases at Tan Son Nhat International Airport; instead, these will be redirected to Long Thanh. Airlines currently operating at Tan Son Nhat will be permitted to shift their international flights to the new airport.
The transition will be aligned with Long Thanh’s construction schedule, infrastructure readiness, and transport connectivity. Seasonal flight schedules and international aviation practices will also be considered.
From summer 2026, airlines will be encouraged to transfer flights from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh for Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. The new airport will then gradually expand its international network to Africa, the Middle East, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia.
During this stage, Tan Son Nhat will continue to handle short-haul routes under 1,000 km operated by Vietnamese airlines and remain the main hub for domestic flights, while Long Thanh will operate part of the network.
After 2030, all international flights will be transferred to Long Thanh once its transport links are fully completed. Tan Son Nhat will then only handle domestic services and irregular or chartered international flights.
The Long Thanh project spans 5,000 hectares and has a total investment capital of VND 336,630 billion (approximately USD 13.2 billion). The first phase, designed to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually, is expected to be completed by the end of this year and enter operation in 2026. The airport has recently conducted calibration flights using a Beechcraft B300 aircraft.
