Tornadoes ravage many localities, killing nine

Tornadoes have hit many localities in Vietnam due to the impact of Typhoon Bualoi, killing at least nine people in the northern province of Ninh Binh.

By 10 am today, September 29, tornadoes struck Quy Nhat, Hai Thinh, Hong Phong, Gia Hung, Chat Binh and Hai Thinh communes in Ninh Binh, killing nine people and injuring 18 people.

More than 200 houses, dozens of electricity poles and roads in Ninh Binh have been damaged by the tornadoes.

This morning, a tornado also occurred in Vinh Hai Commune in Haiphong City, tearing the roofs off many local houses.

Meanwhile, a 15-minute tornado happened in Hoang Phu, Thanh Hoa Province, this morning, damaging dozens of houses.

A similar situation was reported in Hung Yen Province, where violent winds damaged many houses.

Typhoon Bualoi is also bringing heavy rain and strong gusts to Hanoi.

Latest reports showed that by noon the same day, it had left 12 people dead, including nine in Ninh Binh and three in Thanh Hoa, Hue, and Danang. Seventeen fishermen from Ho Chi Minh City and Gia Lai remain missing after contact was lost with three boats. Tens of thousands of homes have been damaged.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that the storm would continue to bring strong winds along the central coast and heavy rain across the north-central and northern regions through September 30.
