Many villages in Nghe An isolated by floods, landslides

Rising rivers and streams cut off roads as landslides blocked access and swept away crops and public infrastructure.

Seven of 14 villages in Tam Thai Commune were isolated after floodwaters submerged the road to Pha Lom, Huoi Son, Vang Mon, Xop Nam and Phong, said Lo Duong Khanh, chairman of Tam Thai Commune. Water also surged over two spillway bridges in Xong Con and Coi, disrupting traffic.

In Pha Lom, villagers said streams swelled within an hour of sudden rains, inundating roads and cutting off access. Fresh landslides and renewed activity at old sites were also reported in Chieu Luu Commune. About 20 metres of the fence at Chieu Luu 2 Primary School collapsed, while water covered spillway bridges that residents could only wade across.

In Muong Tip Commune, a major landslide in Xop Tip Village blocked the main road, halting traffic.

Local residents said flooding and landslides have grown more frequent, increasingly disrupting travel and livelihoods while threatening lives and property.
