East Sea embraces for new storm

A tropical depression in the East Sea is forecast to strengthen into a storm today, September 18, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The tropical depression, packing winds of level 7 (50-61 km/h) and gusts up to level 9, was active over the waters northwest of Luzon Island, the Philippines, at 7 pm on September 17.

It is forecast to enter the East Sea late tonight or early tomorrow morning and could intensify into a storm today.

Due to the storm's impact, the northern region of Vietnam is expected to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by locally heavy rain, particularly overnight and in the early morning hours.

Areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue provinces will experience showers and scattered thunderstorms, with some locations experiencing heavy rainfall. Rain is expected in the afternoon and evening, with localised heavy to very heavy downpours, from Danang to Lam Dong and across the southern region.

The storm is likely to bring rain and thunderstorms across the East Sea, including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, the Gulf of Tonkin, waters from Quang Tri to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to An Giang, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The East Sea may face 4-5 storms from now until the end of the year.
