Hanoi prepares to build parks along the banks of the To Lich River
The initiative is part of the broader environmental rehabilitation programme for the To Lich River.
Water has been diverted from West Lake into the river since September 9 to help revive it, according to the Hanoi People’s Committee. In addition, treated water from the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant will be supplied to maintain the river’s flow. All 245 wastewater outlets along the river have now been redirected to the plant.
The city is also accelerating landscaping and renovation work along the riverbanks.
Stretching more than 13 kilometres, the To Lich River has long been known as the Black River due to severe pollution. Despite multiple clean-up efforts in past years, previous projects have failed to bring lasting improvement.
