Supermarkets in Hanoi are extending opening hours and offering steep discounts to attract shoppers during the National Day holiday.

Hanoi expects tourist arrivals to rise by 30 to 40 per cent during the holiday, prompting retailers to roll out promotions and deep price cuts to stimulate consumer demand.

Aeon Vietnam forecast visitor numbers at its malls, department stores and supermarkets in Hanoi could double or triple compared to normal days. Popular items include fresh food, ready-to-eat meals, beverages, school supplies and travel goods.

Shoppers are increasingly choosing Vietnamese-made products, as well as items with patriotic themes such as national flags, decorations and apparel featuring the red flag with a yellow star.

To meet demand, Aeon pledged to secure stable supplies of essential goods and offer discounts of up to 50 per cent on thousands of products, ranging from daily necessities and high-quality Vietnamese goods to electronics and fashion.

Operating hours are also extended, with northern centres open from 8 am to 10.30 pm between August 29 and September 2, and southern centres open from 8 am or 9 am until 10 pm or 10.30 pm from August 30 to September 2.

Nguyen Tien Duong, Director of MM Mega Market Thang Long, said the retailer is focusing on Vietnamese brands, fast-moving consumer goods and fresh food, with promotions including buy-one-get-one-free, buy-two-get-one-free, discounts of up to 80 per cent, and 20 per cent off fresh food.
