On August 15, Tong Xuan Trong, a resident of Tuy An Bac Commune, discovered three green metal objects about half a metre underground, marked with red labels and English writing. Suspecting they were explosives, he reported the find to local authorities.

Police confirmed the items were M72 launchers and later secured and safely disposed of them.

The M72 Light Anti-tank Weapon, designed by the United States, measures about one metre in length, weighs 2.5 kilograms and has a maximum range of 500 metres, firing 66mm rounds.
