On August 14, Nguyen Van Luu from Kep Commune, Bac Ninh, carried a foam box filled with VND 60 million in banknotes of VND 1,000, VND 2,000 and VND 5,000 to a dealership in Bac Giang Ward for the deposit.
The incident quickly spread on social media, drawing admiration for his perseverance in saving money.
Luu told Dantri/Dtinews that after the story went viral, many friends and acquaintances sent congratulations and asked about his saving method.

“At the beginning, we did not set a target for the savings. Recently, when finances became more stable, we decided to buy a car to make travelling easier,” Luu said.
Before the deposit, ten family members helped count the cash from 4pm to 10pm, carefully bundling it into stacks. On the morning of August 14, Luu and a relative brought the money to the dealership, leaving staff astonished.
“The dealership mobilised nearly all employees to count the money within an hour. The total was VND 60.1 million. After completing the deposit, I gave the staff VND 100,000 for refreshments as a thank you,” he said with a smile.
Later that day, he transferred the remaining amount and drove the new car home. Standing by the vehicle parked in front of their house, the couple said they felt happy to finally have their own means of transport without worrying about rain or sun.
Luu admitted that he and his wife had always reminded each other to save carefully to avoid taking on large debts.
“After years of effort, we have finally bought a car. It is the result of hard work. We will continue selling vegetables as usual,” he said.

Speaking about saving money, Luu noted that many people overlook small notes instead of collecting them.
“If you save patiently every day, your family will have extra money. I believe if you earn VND 1,000, you should only spend VND 500,” he said.
