A section of the Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway
Currently, on the Hanoi-Haiphong expressway, lanes 1 and 2 have a minimum speed limit of 80km/h and a maximum of 120km/h, while lane 3 allows speeds from 60km/h to 100km/h. Trucks can use all three lanes.
Under the pilot plan, from August 15, lane 1 of the Hanoi-Haiphong expressway will have its minimum speed limit raised to 90km/h, with a maximum of 120km/h. The lane will be closed to standard trucks (except single- and double-cabin pickup trucks and pickup vans), special-use trucks (except cash transport trucks), specialised vehicles, tractor trucks, and semi-trailer trucks.
On the Phap Van-Cau Gie expressway, all lanes currently allow speeds from 60km/h to 100km/h, with trucks permitted in all three lanes. From August 15, lane one will have a minimum speed limit of 80km/h, up from 60km/h, and a maximum of 100km/h. The same truck restrictions as on Hanoi-Haiphong will apply. The minimum speed for lane two will also rise from 60km/h to 70km/h, with the maximum unchanged at 100km/h.
Before the end of the trial, both expressway operators must prepare plans to extend the ban to buses in lane 1.
The 29km Phap Van-Cau Gie expressway, with six vehicle lanes, is operated under a BOT contract by Phap Van-Cau Gie BOT Joint Stock Company. The 105km Hanoi-Haiphong expressway, also with six lanes and two emergency stop lanes meeting international standards, is managed under a BOT contract by the Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Joint Stock Company.
