Northern localities forecasted to see heavy rain

Many northern localities are expected to experience heavy rain in the coming days.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on August 14-15, a tropical convergence zone is expected to form over the central part of the East Sea, with a low-pressure area likely to develop along it, which may subsequently intensify into a tropical depression.

Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the Weather Forecasting Department at the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that a tropical convergence zone linked to a low-pressure area forecast to form over the East Sea is expected to bring widespread moderate to heavy rain from August 15-19 to northern Vietnam (mainly the northeast), Thanh Hoa to Hue, the Central Highlands, and the south.

Under the influence of a tropical convergence zone, the northern region of Vietnam, localities from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue, the Central Highlands, and the south are likely to have widespread moderate to heavy rain from August 15-19.

The meteorological agency has warned that a high risk of whirlwinds, lightning, flash floods, landslides, and localised flooding will accompany this spell of rain.

The northern region is witnessing a heat wave with temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting noted that temperatures reported in heatwave bulletins may differ from actual outdoor readings by 2-4 degrees Celsius or more, depending on surface conditions like concrete and asphalt.
