Northern region returns to scorching hot days

Rain is forecast to ease in the northern region of Vietnam from this afternoon, August 7, followed by another heat wave, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting forecasts that the northern heatwave will last from August 8 through around August 10-11.

Meanwhile, the ongoing heatwave in the central region, stretching from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa, is expected to persist until August 12 with the highest temperature of more than 38 degrees Celsius.

Northern localities are expected to experience scattered showers and evening thunderstorms from August 11 to 13.

Between August 9 and 10, the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are forecast to see scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. Storms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong winds.

The heatwave may increase the risk of fires in residential areas due to rising electricity demand, as well as the risk of forest fires.
