Representatives from Dantri/Dtinews and Nhon My Commune participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for two houses for two underprivileged Khmer households on August 4.
On August 4, Dantri/Dtinews, in coordination with the local authorities of Nhon My Commune, held a groundbreaking ceremony for two houses, aiming to help two struggling families realise their dream of stable shelter.
The beneficiaries are Tran Thi Sa Ruol and Ly Thi Dieu. Each household will receive between VND 60 million and over VND 74 million (approximately USD 2,400 to USD 3,000) in construction support, donated by Dantri/Dtinews readers.
At the ceremony, Truong Thanh Giang, Vice Chairman of Nhon My Commune, said the assistance was a practical gesture for local households facing severe housing shortages. This marks the third and fourth house supported by Dantri/Dtinews in the commune.
“On behalf of the local government, I deeply appreciate the compassion of Dantri readers. These homes provide not only shelter, but also hope and motivation for families to escape poverty and raise their children better,” Giang said.
Ly Thi Dieu, one of the recipients, shared her joy: “When I heard Dantri would help build our house, I was overwhelmed. Soon, we will no longer have to worry about leaks when it rains.”

Dieu and her husband have no stable jobs and are raising six young children. After her story was featured by Dantri/Dtinews, she received nearly VND 75 million (approximately USD 3,000) in donations.
Tran Thi Sa Ruol, 54, was also selected among 20 households to receive housing support as part of Dantri’s 20th anniversary initiatives. Widowed at 40, she raised eight children alone in a deteriorated thatched house.

“Knowing we’ll soon have a new home, my children and I have been very excited,” she said.
Both new houses will be approximately 60 square metres in size and are expected to be completed within two weeks. Local authorities will oversee the construction to ensure quality and timely completion.
