350-kilo unexploded bomb found in flood-hit area of Dien Bien

Soldiers assisting flood recovery efforts in the mountainous northern province of Dien Bien have discovered a 350-kilo bomb with its fuse still intact, posing a serious safety risk.

The bomb is found at a flooded site in Dien Bien Province on August 4.

Soldiers assisting flood recovery efforts in the mountainous northern province of Dien Bien have discovered a 350-kilo bomb with its fuse still intact, posing a serious safety risk.

On August 4, while clearing debris near Pa Vat Bridge in Muong Luan commune, troops from Military Region 2 found a suspicious object shaped like a bomb.

Initial inspection by military experts confirmed the object to be an MK117 bomb, manufactured by the United States, weighing approximately 350kg and still equipped with an intact detonator. Authorities warned that any impact could trigger an explosion.

The Dien Bien Provincial Military Command immediately dispatched an explosives disposal team to safely remove the bomb from the residential area. It was transported to Depot K79’s Sub-warehouse 65, where it will be safely detonated in accordance with military protocol.
