Nghe An floods leave four dead, VND 3.39 trillion in losses

Recent floods in Nghe An have claimed four lives, damaged thousands of houses, and caused economic losses exceeding VND 3.39 trillion (approximately USD 133.2 million).

According to local authorities, as of 5 pm on July 28, flooding in Nghe An had damaged 7,088 houses, including 418 that had collapsed entirely, been buried, or swept away. Another 5,430 homes were severely inundated with major damage after the water receded, while 1,240 had roofs torn off or suffered structural damage, including 97 with over 70 per cent damage.

The floods devastated nearly 3,500 hectares of rice, over 3,200 hectares of vegetables, 2,500 hectares of other annual crops, and 940 hectares of forest. More than 60,000 livestock and poultry were killed or swept away, and 125 barns and enclosures were damaged or destroyed.

Up to 569 hectares of small ponds and 216 fish cages. Meanwhile, the irrigation system sustained heavy damage, with nearly 10 kilometres of canals eroded, 10 dams destroyed, and more than 17 kilometres of water pipelines damaged.

Of the total loss of VND 3.39 trillion, the heaviest damage was estimated at VND 1.471 trillion to housing and personal property, and VND 1.39 trillion to transport infrastructure.

The floods have killed four people. Le Hong Vinh, chairman of the Nghe An People’s Committee, said that local authorities have mobilised forces to help residents stabilise their daily lives.
